Thanksgiving Art Ideas: For All Ages

Thanksgiving Hand Prints:

Now this is for sure a classic! This is an art project that is so easy and so fun to do! Try it out with different colors and textures (glitter, glue with sand, etc.). This is one art project that will never disappoint, and takes us back to our childhood as well!

What You Need:

  • Paper
  • Paint (different Colors)
  • Marker
  • Googly Eyes (optional)
  • Glitter (optional)

Steps:

  • Have a piece of paper out
  • Take your child’s hand and turn the palm towards you
  • Take the brown paint (or whatever color you want for the turkeys body) and pant just the palm of the hand (not the fingers)
  • now take whatever colors you want the turkey’s feathers to be and paint the fingers. You can make each finger a different color, or all the same.
  • Take your child’s hand flip it over and gently press the hand in the paper.
  • lift the hand up carefully and voila the turkey base it there
  • now you can take your maker and add the legs, eyes, mouth, etc.
  • If using googly eyes or glitter add to the paint before it dries

And there you have it! The perfect little turkey handprints!

Turkey Plates:

Turkey Face plates are another fun and easy art project top do with your kids of all ages! This project is more about the setup as the materials need to be cut out before the art project begins, but it’s still so much fun to create your version of a turkey!

What You Need:

  • Brown, Orange, and Red Construction Paper
  • Multi-colored tissue paper
  • Paper plate
  • Glue
  • Googly Eyes

Steps:

  • Prep:
    • Cut the brown construction paper into a peanut or circle shape
    • Cut the orange construction paper into a small triangle for the beak and into feet
    • Cut the red paper into the shape of a small peanut for the snood (look at picture above)
    • Cut the tissue paper into squares or ovals for the turkey’s feathers.
  • Action:
    • Have all your prep items, googly eyes, plate, and glue laying out
    • you can either do a practice one for your child to see what it looks like, or let their artistic freedom dictate where everything goes.
    • have the plate out, have them add glue, and have them attach all the pieces to the turkey.
    • this art project is also a good way to teach your young children where the eyes, feathers, feet, beak, and other parts go!

And Just like that you have a Turkey plate ready to hang up on your wall!

Turkey Hats:

Turkey hats are a great project to have the children do before or on thanksgiving.  These hats are so cute and can be worn on Thanksgiving or leading! What is cuter than having little turkeys running around the house??

What You Need:

  • Construction paper (All Colors)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Feathers (optional)

Steps:

  • Prep:
    • Cut Out feathers in the shape of ovals in all different colors
    • Cut out a rectangular strip to go around your child’s head in browner whatever color you would like
    • Cut out a circle in the same color as the strip
    • Cut out a beak for the turkey and its snood (the red thing in the picture above)
    • Cute out the eyes for the turkey
  • Actions:
    • Now the fun begins!
    • take the long strip and put it around your child’s head. Secure it with glue or tape.
    • Once you have the base for the hat, you can start adding your feathers and face
    • glue the feathers on the inside of the hat so when the hat is on, you can’t see where the feathers are pasted
    • on the opposite side (front of the hat) add the circle for the turkey’s body.
    • then add the eyes, snood, and beak!
    • if you are using feathers you can glue the to the paper feathers for a cooler look!
    • Let your child explore with this and make sure to always bring learning into art, by asking where all these parts go!

Fallen Leaf Friends

This is a super easy and cool art project to with all ages. These cute little leaf friends can be used as decorations for tables or for the kids to just l=play with! This is another easy and cute idea for kids to do on Thanksgiving Day!

What You Need:

  • Leaves: go out for a walk and collect all the pretty fall leaves from the floor and save them for this project! you can also use fake leaves if you prefer
  • Popsicle stick
  • Glue
  • Googly eyes
  • Orange construction paper

Steps:

  • Get a few different leaves of sizes and colors. Size from biggest to smallest, with he smallest in front. Glue them together just in the middle so they still look individual.
  • Get your popsicle stick and glue the stems of your leaves to the stick
  • Now you can add a face to your leaf friends! Add eyes, beak, and whatever else you want to.
  • Add Your own flare: glitter/paint/etc.

Now you got cure little leaf friends for play and decoration!

Fall Leaf & Corn Reefs

This is the perfect art project to add decorations to the house! making a corn or Leaf reef is so much fun and it can be used all Holiday Season.  The way you make the reef si really up to you, so pick your own artistic path and lets gert to it!

Corn Reef:

What You Need:

  • Construction Paper (Green and White)
  • Dot Art or paint (Orange, Brown, Red)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • String

Steps:

  • Prep:
    • Cute out ovals in the white paper in shape of corn (12-14)
    • cute out a circle reef to paste the corn on
    • With the green paper Cut out the leaves (12-14)
  • Action:
    • With the Dot art or paint, have your child paint dots to resemble corn on the white paper.
    • After the corn is done, You can glue the leafs on top of the paper
    • Repeat for all the corn
    • Let it dry
    • Once the corns are dry you can now paste them to the circular reef however you like!
    • punch two holes in the to of the reef
    • Tie a string
    • Hang on the wall!!

Leaf Reef:

What You Need:

  • Construction Paper (Green, Red, Brown, Orange, Yellow
  • Scissors
  • String
  • Glue
  • Marker

Steps:

  • Prep:
    • Cut out different leaf shapes in different colors (You can find templates online)
    • Cut out a circle reef (to add leaves to)
  • Action:
    • Sit Down with Your child and either have them write, or help them write, all the things that they are thankful for
    • Do this with each leaf (one thing per leaf)
    • Once they are all written on, glue the leaves to the circular reef
    • Once the reef is Dry, punch two holes at the top and add string
    • Hang and Enjoy!
    • You can also have your child paint or add glitter to the leaves if you want something more!

Thankful Turkey

This Art project is a good way to get your child thinking about what this holiday is really about.  Listing off why they are thankful, is a good interactive and sometimes funny way to see what is on your child’s mind, and at the end of the project you have a cool turkey that represents your child!

What You Need:

  • Construction Paper: All Colors
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Marker
  • Googly eyes

Steps:

  • Prep:
    • Cute Out colorful Feathers out of the construction paper (10-12 Feathers)
    • With Brown construction paper cut out the turkey’s body
    • with orange paper cut out the turkeys beak
  • Action:
    • Have your child sit down and list off 10-12 things they are thankful for. As the list them ogg either you cab write it down one by one on the feathers, or if they are old enough to write themselves have them do it.
    • Once that is done, have them paste the feathers to the turkeys body.
    • after the feathers are on, they can now glue the eyes and beak on
    • Now put it on the wall and share with everyone what your child is thankful for
